C-Sides: The Between - Chapter II

The hunters of Hargrave House are beginning to put together clues to the strange mystery of St. James Place. What do all these numbers mean? Has this type of thing happened before? What is a Zoopraxiscope? Let's find out in the latest episode!

I note this near the end of the episode, but this in-particular is a prime example of the difference between the main cast and the Patreon episode. For listeners who are here for a good story, not much at all is affected, but if you have an affinity for parsing rules and having conversation at the table, this week’s Patreon-only table talk really brings home what can come up at the table.

Thanks!

C-Sides: The Between - Chapter I

Hello all,

It’s that time again, where the gang gets back together and plays another system, we are all excited about. This time around we are playing Jason Cordova’s The Between. I think this game is an absolute blast and I hope you have fun following our heroes through the strange streets of Victorian London. For Session 1 we get the characters set up, but in no time we are on our feet and hitting the ground running exploring a great mystery plaguing the city. Cheers!

C-Sides: Trophy Gold ft. Jason Cordova - The Rime Palace, Chapter III

This is the conclusion of our second Trophy Gold series with Jason Cordova! While you don’t need to have listened to our previous series, Hester’s Mill, to understand this one, I highly recommend you check it out.

Lord Dion, Bruno, Zabatu, and Ezio have made their way into the Rime Palace and survived the life-or-death games being played there. But as they continue lower toward the deep towers of the upside-down, hanging palace and meet the upper echelons of the fae court, they soon learn that it's not just games that are deadly-serious in the Rime Palace, but every aspect of courtly life.

For more information about Trophy, or to purchase this excellent system, check their website here.

You can follow Jason on twitter, and check out The Gauntlet’s website and Patreon.

Cloven Pine Games can be found here, where you can pick up more of their TTRPG work.

The theme music for our Trophy games was made by Gabi Vanek who rules. You can find more of her work here.

Finally, here are links to our merch, twitter and instagram.

P.S. Series IX continues later this week!

C-Sides: Trophy Gold ft. Jason Cordova - The Rime Palace, Chapter II

This is part two of our second Trophy Gold series with Jason Cordova! While you don’t need to have listened to our previous series, Hester’s Mill, to understand this one, I highly recommend you check it out.

Ezio, Zabatu, Sgt. Bruno Ilicik, and Lord Dion Devanos, along with their new companion Iditha are carried by the bone ship Ardken through the Gossamer Void to the Rime Palace. While the journey has been strange, their destination holds stranger mysteries still. But also some familiar faces…

We continue our game of Trophy Gold with Jason Cordova! While you don’t need to have listened to that series to understand this one, I highly recommend you check it out.

Ezio, Zabatu, Sgt. Bruno Ilicik, and Lord Dion Devanos are treasure-hunters searching for a bone ship called Ardken, a legendary ship that supposedly will be able to take them to a lost domain of fae called The Rime Palace.

C-Sides: Hungry Gnolls Eat the Rich

Today's C-Side is Zack Garth's Hungry Gnolls Eat the Rich! A game about building community and uh.. eating the rich, of course.

So enjoy the quest of Tooth-tooth and Greymane as they attempt to steal what food and clothing they can from the human Gospa ruling class preparing for a war the Gnolls have no say in.

If you would like to support us we have merch available on our store, or you can check out our Patreon for opportunities to vote on new C-Sides and chat in our Discord

Finally, be sure to check out Zack Garth’s works. He makes small games and publishes them on itch as well as podcasts with his wife Diana on the one-on-one RPG podcast Heart Points.

Thanks for listening!

C-Sides: The Veil - Chapter V

This is it! The Veil concludes!

Mr. Smiley, now mask-off to the viewer, leads the team toward an assassination attempt on the famous talking-head Bryan O'Doule of Omega Day News, but first there's a to-do on the floor of the Crystal Palace Casino...

900 opens themself up -- both figuratively and literally -- to one of the casino staff, but their affections only bring the crew more trouble.

Chainbreaker, now the de-facto leader of his local religious sect, has to keep the neophytes safe as best he can, but his fast-progressing illness can only let him do so much.

And Snow White is determined to make sure that she's the biggest beneficiary of all this chaos, at any means necessary.

Also, before you go, our friend Gabi Vanek, who has done music for several of our games now, released a couple of EPs with another local Will Yager in the last year. If you 'd like to give her a little love, you can find those here and here.

You hear my pitch in the intro, but if you have the desire and scratch to help us make this podcast, consider subscribing to our Patreon, it really helps us out, or buy an awesome T-Shirt.

See you next time, thanks again

C-Sides: The Veil - Chapter I

That’s right, today it’s another awesome C-Side and today we’re playing The Veil by Fraser Simons!

We introduce Mr. Smiley, Chainbreaker, and 900 and do some world building, then our three protagonists try to have a quiet evening at Mr. Smiley’s Noodle Shop, but one patron just can’t keep his cool, and then everything goes to shit.

C-Sides: Trophy Gold ft. Jason Cordova - Chapter III

The third and final installment of our Trophy Gold campaign with Jason Cordova of the Gauntlet gaming community. Trophy (now called Trophy Dark) was originally published in Codex Dark 2 and the follow-up game Trophy Gold (which we’re playing today!) can be found in Codex Gold.

Check here for a more in-depth look at Trophy.

Ezio, Sareh & Thessil can finally see the true blight that’s befallen the town of Torren’s Bend, but are they willing to do what must be done to eliminate the demonic influence brought on by The Diabolist and Show Woman Extraordinnaire Beatrix Mandrake?

…and hey! We have T-Shirts and Stickers! Check them out here

C-Sides: Trophy Dark

We are excited to bring you another awesome C-Side! This time we are playing Trophy Dark. For this episode (which I hoped to get out on Halloween, but failed) we went with a system that engages with horror. I’ll admit, we go pretty deep on the roleplay with this one! I hope that you enjoy listening to our two players banter back and forth as much as I did.

A big shout out to Jesse Ross, Jason Cordova, and other involved with Trophy. It is 100% our pleasure to play your amazing game:

Shout out as well to hinterheim for the use of their track “Finnaly Lost” which I got from the FMA. Please support their music if you enjoy it: https://hinterheim.bandcamp.com/

C-Sides: Trophy Gold ft. Jason Cordova - Chapter I

JD, Nathan, & Zach play Trophy Gold with Jason Cordova. This is the first of a three-part crossover with Jason. You can also find this and other information about Trophy here.

Our entrance music was made by Gabi Vanek. Thanks, Gabi!

Ezio, Sareh, and Thessel come upon the blighted land of Torren’s Bend in hopes of discovering treasure left over from the overthrowing of Lord Galdren by the farmers and townsfolk of Hester’s Mill, but first they have to find the road leading to Hester’s Mill, and that’s a lot easier than it sounds.

C-Sides: The Skeletons

This week, Nathan, Zach, and J.D. celebrate the coming of Halloween with a one-shot of The Skeletons, by Jason Morningstar. This is a freeform, meditative, and GMless RPG about dead guardians protecting a tomb. Though limited in their awareness due to magic only animating them when intruders are breaking in, the guardians slowly remember their forgotten pasts. This was our first time playing it, and we had an absolute delight with this little game.

We have shirts and stickers available here!

C-Sides: Swords Without Master Ft. Zack Garth

Our cup runneth over this episode as we were graced by the amazing Zack Garth (of the Heart Points podcast) and together we play the equally amazing Swords Without Master (by the, you guessed it, equally amazing Epidiah Ravachol). Hopefully this can serve as a primer to those new to the game and for those more familiar just sit back and enjoy!

Dogs in the Vineyard Pt. 3

The stunning conclusion of our Dogs in the Vineyard Mini-Arc....

I cannot be happier with how Oak and Austin take on the wonderfully subtle and creative town of Willow Bluff. The pair are met with things much more difficult than big one-eyed monsters... they are met with people, just complicated people who has hopes, dreams, and desires to do what is best for themselves.

I have to give an exceptionally huge shout out to The Gauntlet whose zine Codex (specifically the "Love II" issue) featured the supplement I used for this series. I also just heard that Love II will be available for purchase this weekend on DrivethruRPG. Thanks as well to Sid Icarus (@ActionEconomy) who wrote the supplement. Thanks to the Black Twig Pickers for their cover of "Wreck of the Old 97." Finally a big shout out to Vincent Baker for making this game. It was a blast to play!

Dogs in the Vineyard Pt. 2

Well we're back at it again with the second part of our latest C-Side: Dogs in the Vineyard. Now the introductions are out of the way the Dogs (Oak & Austin) can get down to sorting the mail and helping the town of Willow Bluff. This episode really highlights some amazing roleplaying from my two players. Both of their characters are looking for problems early on, but quickly realize how they need to go about trying to accomplish their goal of rooting out any sin with a gentler hand. I think this is one of the few times I've ever been able to just roleplay for an extended period of time almost completely free of mechanics. Some folks may find it boring, and if you do, I apologize, but I think it is actaully a very interesting look into the kind of nature of this game with its almost "mystery novel" like elements. Both players want to try and figure out what is wrong because they know there must be something, but they never let their characters become unsympathetic or empathetic to the NPC's struggles. I hope you have a ball meeting the Constance family, Levi, Norma, and the rest of Willow Bluff. Next week will more than likely be the conclusion of this little arc (at least for the time being) so feel free to drop us a line of twitter and let us know what you thought.

Cheers!
